2v2 Team Battle

Teams, captaincy, turns, and the race.

Teams

Create a team

Pick a friend and choose a team name. Your teammate accepts the invite before the team goes active.

Team rating

A separate Glicko-2 rating for 2v2, starting from the average of your two ratings. It never affects your 1v1 rating.

Matchmaking

Matches are made by team rating, against another duo.

Captaincy

The captain

Whoever creates the team captains it, and only the captain can start a search: enforced by the server, so a team can never queue twice.

Taking over

Either teammate can take the captaincy at any time, so a sleeping captain never leaves you stuck.

Turn-based match

Turn rotation

Players alternate: Team A player 1, Team B player 1, Team A player 2, Team B player 2.

Team clock

Both teammates share one time bank. Each turn is capped at a tenth of the team clock: 3 minutes on a 30-minute game.

Missed turns

Cost your team 10 points and take that time off the shared clock, then play moves on. From your team's fourth onwards the cost is 20, but no letter is ever given away, and a missed turn can never end the game.

Wrong answers

Three fails each. Once yours are gone, every wrong guess costs your team 10 points and reveals a random letter on the grid, which helps your opponents too.

Scoring

Each player earns individual points: your team's total decides the winner.

MVP

The highest individual scorer across all four players is crowned MVP.

Free-for-All race

The race

No turns: all four players race on private grids at the same time, against a shared countdown.

Taking words

The first correct answer takes the word's full value for that player's team.

One shot

One try per word per player. A wrong answer locks you out of that word: your teammate can still try it.

The finish

The game ends when the countdown expires or the grid is filled. Most team points wins; total team words is the tiebreak.
