Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

When you create an account via Google or Apple Sign-In, we receive your email address and display name. We store your game progress, scores, and leaderboard entries in our Supabase (PostgreSQL) database hosted on AWS in the EU (eu-west-2).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to authenticate your account, save your game progress, display leaderboards, and provide customer support. We do not sell your personal data.

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely in Supabase (AWS infrastructure, eu-west-2 region). Game progress is cached locally in your browser using localStorage.

4. Diagnostics & Session Recording

To find and fix faults we use Sentry. It records errors, and may record a replay of your visit — layout, clicks, navigation and timing — linked to your account ID. Typed text, crossword answers and images are masked in your browser before anything is sent, so a replay shows how the site behaved, not what you wrote. Replays are stored by Sentry in the EU and deleted automatically after a limited retention period. Sessions from our own test accounts are not recorded.

When you are signed in, we also keep a simple activity log in our own database, so we can see where new players get stuck and make the site easier to use. It records which pages you open, which buttons and links you press, and steps such as starting or cancelling a search for an opponent. It does not record anything you type: no crossword answers, no searches, no messages. It is linked to your account, is not shared with anyone, is deleted with your account, and is deleted automatically after 180 days.

5. Your Rights

You can delete your account yourself from your Profile page (Account actions → Delete account). Your account is closed straight away, and it is permanently deleted, with all associated data, 30 days later. If you change your mind within those 30 days, or you would rather ask us to delete it, contact us at enquiries@rhubarbpress.com.

6. Advertising & Cookies

Crossword Capital is free to play, supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display advertisements to players on the free tier. Premium subscribers do not see ads.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies (including the Google advertising cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.eu (UK/EU).
• For visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland, we request your consent for the use of advertising cookies before they are set, in line with UK GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive.

We also store your game progress locally in your browser using localStorage (see section 3). You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings.
